Illustrator: Julianna Swaney

Publisher/Year: Eerdmans Books for Young Readers/2026

Perfect for spring, Consider the Lilies is a lovely concept book highlighting wildflowers and all the beautiful colors in which they come. The author uses fun, gentle near rhyme to introduce young readers to several flowers, colors, and even birds and insects. Through the illustrator’s charming digital artwork, kids will meet red poppies, yellow sunflowers, and purple coneflowers, along with butterflies, ladybugs, busy little honey bees, and more.

I love this opening spread featuring white Queen Anne’s Lace!

Consider the Lilies is the second book in the Consider series, following Consider the Birds by the same author and illustrator, which was published in 2025 and focuses on counting birds that kids will likely find familiar, such as black-capped chickadees. Both books encourage a closer relationship with the Creator through the beauty and marvel of nature.

Consider the Lilies leaves readers with the sentiment that God made wildflowers special “and they live and grow just where they are supposed to be. It’s the same with you and me.”

Today, Finley shares a fun flower fact: The average sunflower can grow up to 10 or 15 feet tall, depending on species, but the tallest sunflower ever recorded was 30 feet tall!
